UK passes lifetime smoking ban for anyone born after 2008

British lawmakers have approved new and stricter restrictions on smoking that will prevent anyone currently aged 17 or younger, as well as those born in the future, from ever legally purchasing cigarettes.

Under the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, shops will be restricted from selling tobacco products to anyone born on or after January 1, 2009. This means individuals born after December 31, 2008, will be banned from buying cigarettes.

The law also tightens controls on vaping, including banning the sale of vaping and nicotine products to those under 18 and restricting advertising for these products.
