Residents along the Budhi Gandaki river in north central Nepal evacuated on Sunday as flash flooding destroyed homes and other structures. The river burst its banks, leading authorities to urge villagers to move to safer locations.
The floods swept away approximately 45 houses and caused significant damage to infrastructure. Officials reported that four bridges were destroyed and three hydropower projects were damaged.
Rescue helicopters and ground troops are currently reaching villagers in the affected areas. Rescuers continue to battle to find five people who remain missing following the disaster.
