Fire officials reported Tuesday that the deadly 2025 Eaton fire in the Los Angeles area was caused by equipment belonging to Southern California Edison. Investigators determined that the blaze was sparked by electrical arcing events at a tower that was not in service.
The January 2025 wildfire killed 19 people and destroyed or damaged more than 9,000 homes and businesses. It took firefighters nearly a month to extinguish the blaze that devastated Southern California.
In lawsuits filed earlier this year, Southern California Edison claimed that Los Angeles County agencies failed to send timely evacuation warnings to residents in east and west Altadena.
