Kimi Antonelli won a chaotic and dramatic Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, extending his victory streak to five consecutive races. The Mercedes driver's dominant drive has pushed his championship lead to a commanding 66 points. Historically, every driver who has won five consecutive races in a Formula One season has gone on to win the title.
The race was twice interrupted by crashes and a red flag, creating a bewildering environment for the competitors. With 10 laps remaining, the race was red-flagged after parts of the asphalt broke away and two cars crashed in quick succession. Despite the disruptions and the appearance of two safety cars, Antonelli remained ice-cool to secure the victory over Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli started the race on pole position, making him the first Italian since Jarno Trulli in 2004 to take pole in the principality. By putting down eight faultless laps, the Mercedes driver became the youngest winner of the sport's most iconic race.
