England and Wales may have seen more than 2,700 deaths resulting from this summer's heat waves. British experts indicate that human activity was behind these heat-related deaths, with 42% attributed to extra heat caused by climate change.

The UK has experienced two record heatwaves this year, recording temperatures of 35.1C in May and 37.7C in June. Climate change pushed these temperatures between 3 deg C and 4 deg C higher than they would have otherwise been.

The World Weather Attribution group of scientists stated that the June heatwaves would have been virtually impossible without the influence of climate change.
