Russia threatens more strikes on Kyiv, warning foreign citizens to leave

armed conflict defense & military

Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine between May 25 and May 26, firing more than 100 drones and two ballistic missiles. The strikes hit every district in the capital city of Kyiv, leaving at least four people dead on Sunday.

Following the assault, Russia urged residents to steer clear of military and government facilities and advised foreign citizens, including diplomats, to abandon the capital or risk being hit in a new and intense wave of attacks. Ukraine's foreign ministry stated that Moscow's threats to hit Kyiv especially hard from the air brought nothing new.

These attacks come as Moscow is stalled on the battlefield and at the negotiating table. Russia is ramping up its use of ballistic missiles to demoralize the population and overwhelm air defenses in an effort to regain the strategic initiative.

Despite the devastation, Ukraine continues to conduct long-range strikes on Russia's war machine while recovering from the recent attacks, even as the Kremlin threatens further strikes.
