Russian forces carried out massive strikes using missiles and drones against Kyiv and a dozen other Ukrainian regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the barrage as massive, with Russian forces utilizing ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones to exploit gaps in air defenses. The attacks targeted residential buildings, industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, and rail and road transport.
The strikes resulted in significant casualties, with Ukrainian officials reporting at least 21 civilians killed, including four children, and around 60 wounded. Other reports noted at least 20 deaths and 50 injuries in central and eastern Ukraine. In Kyiv, at least two people died in a fire and others were killed by ballistic missiles. The highest death toll was recorded in Pryluky, in the northern Chernihiv region, where a missile obliterated a five-storey residential building.
Simultaneously, Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Moscow and nearby regions in two years. Russian officials reported that 290 drones targeted the area, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to several people in the Russian capital.
