Shield AI, a San Diego-based defense technology company specializing in autonomous military technology, has secured $2 billion in funding, achieving a $12.7 billion valuation. This more than doubles the company’s value from the previous year, reflecting increased investor interest in defense technology and artificial intelligence.

The funding will be used to expand the company’s AI-powered software and to acquire Aechelon Technology, a simulation platform supporting the Pentagon’s Joint Simulation Environment. Shield AI develops autonomous systems, including the Hivemind autonomous pilot system.

Recent successes contributing to this growth include a contract to provide software for Anduril’s Fury fighter jet program with the U.S. Air Force. The company has now raised a total of $1.5 billion as demand for next-generation defense capabilities continues to rise.
