Spotify introduces verified badges to distinguish human artists from AI

technology music

Spotify has introduced a new verification system called the Verified by Spotify badge to help listeners distinguish human musicians from AI-generated content. This green checkmark will begin appearing on artist profiles and in search results over the coming weeks as synthetic tracks increasingly flood streaming platforms.

The initiative is designed to help users trust the authenticity of the music they listen to. By providing a signal that a profile has been reviewed and meets the platform's standards for authenticity, Spotify aims to make it easier for listeners to identify authentic human artists.

To receive the badge, artists must meet specific criteria, including consistent listener engagement and compliance with platform policies. Spotify will review an artist's identifiable presence both on and off the platform, looking for evidence such as live concert dates, merchandise, and social media presence.

Content farms and profiles generated by artificial intelligence are explicitly excluded from the verification system at launch.
