George Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday in Spielberg, securing his second victory of the 2026 season after taking the opener in Australia. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff called the performance cold-blooded as Russell ended a 112-day wait for a win, breathing fresh life into his world championship bid.
Max Verstappen finished 1.6 seconds adrift at his Red Bull team's home circuit after crashing in qualifying and starting fifth. Kimi Antonelli finished third, 0.3 seconds behind Verstappen following a thrilling chase to the line. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finished fifth after running second and battling Verstappen wheel-to-wheel.
The win marks Mercedes' seventh victory in eight rounds. Russell has narrowed his deficit in the world championship standings, trimming teammate Kimi Antonelli's lead to 40 points. Antonelli currently leads with 171 points, followed by Russell with 131 and Hamilton with 125.
