Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Oslo, Norway, on Tuesday to meet with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as Norwegian and Finnish leaders. The meetings were intended to put diplomacy back on a more constructive path and avoid a further diplomatic rupture between Kyiv and Washington.
Relations have deteriorated as President Donald Trump has criticized Zelensky over Ukraine's efforts to inflict heavy losses on Russia and pressured him to make a deal with Russia. Further tensions arose after Trump reached an agreement with Moscow last week to purchase Russian diesel, while the US has also pressed Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil infrastructure.
Kyiv has accused the US of delaying the delivery of interceptor and Patriot missiles. Additionally, there have been reported restrictions on intelligence-sharing and satellite communications.
Following the talks, which a US official described as constructive, Zelensky sought to draw a line under the escalating feud. The meetings in Oslo were aimed at easing tensions ahead of Steve Witkoff's upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin in Russia.
