President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a Super Intelligence Force, a new government task force designed to coordinate the administration's response to rapidly evolving artificial intelligence. The group will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who will serve as the White House AI czar, and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson.
The task force was established following meetings with leaders of the country's largest AI companies and in response to industry and public concerns regarding AI safety. Members of the panel will include leaders from the Pentagon, the Federal Trade Commission, the Office of Personnel Management, and the intelligence community. The group is tasked with reporting on the risks and opportunities posed by the technology.
As part of its mission, the force will reach out to various stakeholders, including AI companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, and critical infrastructure providers. This initiative represents the administration's latest effort to manage the debate surrounding AI safety and its societal impact.
Jay Clayton, who oversees the US’s 18 intelligence agencies, brings a background as the former top federal prosecutor in Manhattan and former leader of the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first term. During his Senate confirmation hearing, Clayton described AI as a gamechanger that also poses a threat.
