A federal judge has blocked the Kennedy Center from returning President Donald Trump's name to the performing arts venue. The judge ruled that the center's board may not put the name back on the building, stating that such a change requires the blessing of Congress.
The ruling comes four months after the same judge ordered that the arts center could not be renamed to include President Trump's name. The court found that the name was illegally added when an inscription on the facade was previously approved to acknowledge his role in renovating and restoring the building.
During a hearing, the judge told officials that memorials for President Trump, or anyone or anything else, cannot be installed at the Kennedy Center without Congressional approval. Meanwhile, the Kennedy Center board, which consists of allies of President Trump, is scheduled to vote on a new plan to close the venue for two years of renovations.
