The High Court has ruled that the UK government's approval for China to build a new embassy in London was lawful. The decision, delivered on Friday, dismisses a legal challenge and allows construction of the super embassy to proceed.
The legal action was brought by the Royal Mint Court residents’ association against the London borough of Tower Hamlets and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. This ruling may signal the end of a long-running saga that has strained ties between Britain and China.
The proposed complex is located on the site of the old Royal Mint, near the Tower of London. Spanning 20,000 square metres, it is set to become the largest embassy complex in the UK by area.
