world united nations armed conflict

At least three UN peacekeepers have been killed this week in southern Lebanon as violence escalates. Two members of the peacekeeping force died Monday in an explosion that destroyed their vehicle, with the origin of the blast currently unknown.

A separate incident on Sunday resulted in the death of another peacekeeper when a projectile exploded near the village of Adchit al-Qusayr. An Indonesian peacekeeper was also confirmed killed due to artillery fire.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the killings, stating that attacks on peacekeepers are grave violations of international humanitarian law and may constitute war crimes. UNIFIL is stationed in southern Lebanon to monitor hostilities along the demarcation line with Israel.
