Cuba’s Power Grid Fails Again, Marking Third Outage This Month

Cuba experienced a nationwide blackout Saturday, marking the second time its national electric grid has collapsed this week. The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported a total disconnection of the National Electric System and stated protocols to restore service were being implemented.

The blackouts have left streets dark and residents relying on flashlights. Officials attribute the ongoing energy crisis to aging infrastructure and a U.S.-imposed oil blockade impacting the country’s ability to maintain power for its 10 million people.

This is the third power grid collapse this month for the island nation, as the communist government continues to struggle with maintaining consistent electricity service amid existing pressures.
