Britain has raised its national terrorism threat level from substantial to severe. The Joint Terrorism Analysis Center announced the change, which represents the second-highest rung on a five-point scale.
The severe threat level indicates that intelligence agencies consider an attack to be highly likely within the next six months.
The elevation follows an antisemitic stabbing attack in north London. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Jewish people are living in fear and vowed stronger action to protect them. Starmer has pressed law enforcement authorities to crack down on antisemitic violence after the attack raised fresh questions about the government's attention to threats facing Britain's Jewish community.
