The U.S. House of Representatives supported President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran this week, narrowly rejecting a Democratic resolution to halt hostilities without Congressional authorization. The vote in the Republican-majority chamber was 214 to 213.
This followed a similar outcome in the Senate on Wednesday, where a measure seeking to limit the president’s authority was also blocked along party lines. Nearly all Democrats favored the resolution in both chambers.
Despite some Republican lawmakers expressing a desire for a swift end to the fighting, few were willing to vote to curb the president’s powers. The war’s uncertain conclusion remains a key concern as the conflict approaches its two-month mark.
