Kenya has recorded its first confirmed case and death of Ebola. Health minister Aden Duale announced that a Kenyan citizen, who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, arrived in Nairobi on Saturday and subsequently died on Monday. The patient had traveled from Congo via Uganda before testing positive for the virus.
Health authorities have identified 28 contacts so far, including family members and health workers. Officials are currently on high alert, monitoring for more cases and taking measures to prevent the further spread of the virus.
Kenya is the fourth country to record an Ebola case in the current outbreak, which began in eastern DR Congo in mid-May. This outbreak is the worst in the history of the DR Congo, with confirmed cases surpassing 8,300 and more than 4,000 people dead.
