President Donald Trump has signed a $70 billion bill to fund immigration enforcement agencies through the end of his term. The legislation, which passed the House on Tuesday, provides funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol through 2028 and fiscal 2029.
The package allocates $38 billion for ICE and $26 billion for the Border Patrol, with an additional $5 billion designated to cover unforeseen contingency costs.
The bill's passage concludes a monthslong feud and partisan debate that exposed deep divisions on Capitol Hill, including a fight with dissident Republicans over a payout fund for political allies. The funding is intended to bolster the administration's deportation agenda for the remainder of the president's time in the White House.
Immigrant advocates have warned that the funding bill provides few guardrails for ICE and Customs and Border Protection amidst the administration's mass deportation campaign.
