Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a surprise visit to Damascus on Sunday, marking his first official trip to Syria since the fall of the previous government. The visit coincided with the arrival of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Zelenskyy held talks with Syria’s leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, pledging to work for enhanced security and deepen ties between the two nations. Kyiv is seeking to promote its military expertise across the Middle East.
The discussions focused on securing military cooperation and bolstering regional partnerships, particularly amid the ongoing conflict with Russia and following the outbreak of the Iran war. Both countries agreed to collaborate on future endeavors.
