President Donald Trump announced that the US Navy stopped and boarded an Iranian-flagged cargo ship, the Touska, in the Gulf of Oman. The vessel was stopped by blowing a hole in its engine room after it ignored warnings to stop.
The cargo ship, which had sailed from Malaysia, is now in the custody of US marines.
The seizure is an apparent escalation of a U.S. naval blockade. This action comes after Iran fired upon commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz earlier on Sunday.
