Former President Joe Biden filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday to block the release of audio recordings and transcripts of private conversations. The recordings consist of interviews conducted in 2016 and 2017 with the ghostwriter of his 2017 memoir, which Biden and his writing partner used to develop the project.

The former president is urging a judge to bar officials from sharing these files with Republicans in Congress and a conservative advocacy group. Biden argues that the disclosure of these recordings would violate his privacy.

These decade-old conversations were utilized by Special Counsel Robert Hur in an investigation into allegations that Biden improperly handled classified documents. The materials exposed frequent memory lapses, which helped derail his 2024 re-election campaign.
