Serena Williams received praise from fellow players for her performance during her first singles match in nearly four years at Wimbledon. Her game featured serves beyond 120 mph and heavy groundstrokes landing within inches of the baseline.
However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion sustained an injury during a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 singles defeat by Australian Maya Joint. Her agent confirmed that Williams tweaked her right knee during the match.
Because of the injury, Williams' status to play in women's doubles is uncertain. While her agent expressed hope that she could still play alongside her sister, Venus, later in the week, those hopes now look in doubt.
