The Eiffel Tower was forced to close on Monday after staff went on strike to protest the sidelining and replacement of female employees. The protest was sparked by the removal of female colleagues during a private visit by a Hindu religious group.
The Paris landmark's operator stated that the group, identified as the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) spiritual movement, had requested that the visit be organized in a way that would limit interactions with women.
The tower's operating company has since apologized for the decision. Additionally, the BAPS Hindu temple in Paris released a statement apologizing for any pain or inconvenience caused.
