A gunman opened fire on tourists Monday at Mexico's world-famous Teotihuacan archaeological site in central Mexico. The attack occurred on the pre-Aztecan Pyramid of the Moon, resulting in the death of one Canadian woman, identified as 29-year-old Delicia Li de Yong, and leaving at least 13 others wounded, including six Americans.
The shooting turned the visit into a scene of chaos as tourists attempted to duck from the gunfire and jumped from atop the pyramids to escape. Following the incident, Mexico has closed the famous pyramid site.
Security officials and a Mexican prosecutor stated that the attack was not spontaneous and had been thoroughly planned. The gunman reportedly made multiple visits to the archaeological site before carrying out the violent acts.
