Strikes in Ukraine and Russia kill at least 16 on Chernobyl's 40th anniversary

defense & military

Ukraine is marking the 40th anniversary of the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the worst civilian nuclear disaster in history. This comes four years into the Russian invasion, which has put the plant once again under threat and raised risks of another radioactive catastrophe.

Authorities report that strikes across Ukraine, Russian-occupied territory, and Russia have killed at least 16 people. The Chernobyl anniversary has highlighted the nuclear risks of the Russia-Ukraine war and prompted fresh warnings about the risks posed by attacks near the plant.

Additionally, Russia’s Defense Minister visited North Korea for talks with leader Kim Jong-un about future military co-operation.
