New York City police shot and killed 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros on Monday after she stabbed two people in Times Square. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the stabbings as random and unprovoked acts.
Cisneros was wielding two large kitchen knives during the attack. Social media videos showed at least 10 officers gathered around the woman before she was shot.
One of the victims, a woman, died in the hospital, while a second victim, a man, remains in critical condition. Cisneros also died at the hospital.
Authorities stated that they do not believe the attack was terror-related. Police are probing Cisneros's mental health, as she reportedly had previous mental health problems.
