President Donald Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., announced Saturday that it will spend $10 million to support Republican Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate bid in Texas. According to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, this represents the group's biggest expenditure of the current election cycle.
The commitment dramatically increases the PAC's spending after it kept most of its war chest, which contains at least $400 million, on the sidelines. Previously, MAGA Inc. had only made one donation this midterm cycle: approximately $800,000 to Darline Graham.
This marks the first significant spending by MAGA Inc. in a premier general election contest. Republicans are nervous about the tight race in the Lone Star state, where the candidacy of James Talarico may make the once-safe Republican seat viable for Democrats. GOP candidates have been waiting for the president to deploy these funds to boost Paxton's bid.
