Cargo ship with 10 crew sinks off Istanbul coast after collision

Turkish officials have launched a search operation off the coast of Istanbul after two ships collided in the Sea of Marmara. Coast guard vessels and a helicopter are currently searching for a cargo ship and its 10 crew members.

The collision occurred overnight when a bulk carrier crashed into a chemical tanker. Authorities reported that they lost contact with the vessel and its crew following the incident.

The governor's office stated that the collision took place 18 nautical miles, or 33 kilometres, off the Silivri district on the western edge of Istanbul province.
