France has recorded its hottest summer since measurements began over a century ago. French Environment Minister Monique Barbut stated on Thursday that the summer of 2026 was the hottest ever recorded since measurements began in 1990.
According to Meteo France, the summer of 2026 recorded an average temperature of 24 °C covering day and nighttime. This figure is 3.6 C above the normal average, surpassing 2003, when temperatures were 2.7 C above normal.
France joins Belgium and Britain in recording their hottest-ever summers after a season that scorched Europe, the globe's fastest warming continent.
