Eva Marie Saint, the Oscar-winning actor, has died at the age of 102. A luminous beauty with dramatic depth, she was known as a pale, willowy performer who bucked many Hollywood conventions throughout her lengthy career.
Saint won an Academy Award for her film debut in the Elia Kazan drama On the Waterfront, where she starred opposite Marlon Brando. In the role of Edie, a Catholic schoolgirl and the grieving sister of a murdered New Jersey dockworker, she brought a layered intensity to the harrowing role.
She also starred in Alfred Hitchcock's romantic thriller North by Northwest, where she played a chic seductress opposite Cary Grant.
