Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion libel lawsuit against the BBC, alleging that a 2024 episode of the documentary series Panorama defamed him. The president claims that the program, which focused on the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, caused financial harm to his business interests.
In July, a Miami-based judge ruled that the president was required to turn over detailed financial records to the BBC by August 6. These records would have revealed information regarding the hundreds of businesses owned by the US president’s family trust.
Trump's legal team has since secured an emergency suspension of that ruling. US District Judge Roy Altman issued a temporary pause on the order to provide the financial documents while he considers a request from the president's team to revise and narrow parts of the lawsuit.
