BP's board announced on Tuesday the removal of Chairman Albert Manifold due to serious concerns relating to governance standards, oversight, and conduct. The abrupt firing, which occurred less than a year after his appointment, represents the latest in a series of leadership changes and boardroom turmoil to rock the oil company.
Manifold has since pushed back against the accusations, stating that he was removed without warning and without explanation. He challenged the allegations regarding his behavior and said he disputes entirely the characterization of his conduct.
In an emailed statement, the former chair asserted that nobody raised the issue of his conduct during his time at the energy major. Manifold added that he will not allow a false narrative regarding his departure to go unchallenged.
