US-Iran ceasefire excludes Lebanon, Israel continues Hezbollah fight

Prime Minister Netanyahu has welcomed the US decision to suspend attacks on Iran, however, a ceasefire agreement is proving contentious. Reports initially suggested the deal encompassed Lebanon, where Israel is engaged with Hezbollah, but Netanyahu has stated the truce does not apply to that conflict.

The two-week ceasefire with Iran falls short of expectations held by some within Netanyahu’s political base, who anticipated a more dramatic outcome. Israel’s primary goal remains preventing significant concessions to Iran during negotiations.

Hezbollah has announced it will halt strikes against Israel, despite this, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue combat operations. The ceasefire is expected to present domestic challenges for Netanyahu’s government.
