French President Emmanuel Macron stated that a military operation to force open the Strait of Hormuz would be unrealistic, responding to a challenge from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding reopening the vital waterway.

Macron also voiced strong criticism of Trump, accusing him of inconsistency regarding Iran and of undermining the NATO military alliance through questioning commitment. He emphasized that constant doubt erodes the alliance’s foundation.

The French president further noted efforts to build a coalition with allies focused on guaranteeing free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, but only after hostilities cease. Trump had previously mocked Macron’s marriage and accent.
