PSG moves opening league match to Rennes after heatwave damages pitch

sports football

Paris Saint-Germain’s opening match of its title defense in the French league against Rennes has been relocated on short notice. The game, originally scheduled for Sunday, will now take place in Rennes at the Roazhon Park ground, according to the competitions committee.

The decision follows a summer heatwave that severely damaged the pitch at the Parc des Princes. The club stated that current conditions did not allow the match to be held under satisfactory circumstances, particularly regarding the safety and physical well-being of the players.

The change of venue was decided in agreement with Rennes. Paris Saint-Germain expressed regret for the exceptional situation and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to supporters and all those who had planned to attend the match at the Parc des Princes.

The club has identified a solution for replacing the pitch at the Parc des Princes for upcoming matches. PSG is expected to host its next Ligue 1 game against Monaco at its home stadium on September 4.
