Bangkok has declared a state of disaster across all 50 districts after days of nonstop, incessant rain. The emergency comes as the capital was inundated by more than 300 millimeters of rain in less than 48 hours, with heavy rainfall continuing since Thursday.
The flooding has submerged roads and canals, sending water into homes and stores. Major canals reported accumulated rainfall exceeding 20 centimeters on Saturday, leaving some streets flooded to waist level. These conditions have disrupted traffic and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has urged people to stay home, although he stated that the situation is stabilizing. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is cutting short a trip to London to return to the capital.
