India-Africa summit postponed indefinitely over Ebola outbreak

India and the African Union have postponed the India-Africa Forum Summit scheduled for next week in New Delhi. India's foreign ministry stated the postponement is due to an emerging public health situation in Africa, referencing the outbreak of Ebola. The summit, which was due to begin at the end of May, has been postponed indefinitely.

The outbreak has hit the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a first case confirmed in the rebel-held South Kivu province. Health experts have warned that the world is seeing only the top of the iceberg as the deadly disease spreads.

In eastern DR Congo, efforts to stop the outbreak have been hampered by armed conflict. Healthcare workers and aid groups have appealed for additional staff and supplies to combat a rare type of Ebola, as armed groups continue to threaten safety in a region already grappling with displacement and humanitarian issues.
