Trump sued over 50% tariffs on Canadian goods in latest trade challenge

A lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's tariffs on a range of Canadian goods has been filed in the United States Court of International Trade. The Liberty Justice Center filed the action on behalf of U.S. food importer Gellert Global Group, contesting the Trump administration's imposition of 50% tariffs on an array of Canadian imports.

The lawsuit argues that the president bypassed Congress and misused Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, a Depression-era law, to implement the tariffs. The filing asserts that the White House exceeded its authority and caused immediate harm to American businesses.

This legal challenge once again puts the president's ability to wage a trade war without Congress before a court that has repeatedly ruled against him.
