Greece will ban access to social media for children under the age of 15, starting January 1, 2027. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the measure on Wednesday, citing concerns about anxiety, sleep problems, and the addictive nature of online platforms.

The ban, communicated via a TikTok video aimed at young people, follows similar action taken by Australia, which enacted a ban for those under 16 and subsequently faced a lawsuit.

A February poll indicated significant public support for the initiative, with approximately 80% of respondents expressing approval. Enforcement of the ban will utilize a state-mandated app on personal devices.
