Russia launched a massive overnight strike on Kyiv and the surrounding region, utilizing 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles. The attacks targeted energy infrastructure, electricity substations, a bridge over the Dnipro River, and sites within Ukraine's military-industrial sector.
The barrage resulted in at least one civilian death and multiple injuries. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that falling debris damaged a residential building. These strikes have further worsened living conditions for residents who already have limited access to power and water.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of attempting to plunge the entire country into a blackout and renewed calls for the delivery of Patriot interceptor missiles. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia is deliberately seeking to leave millions of Ukrainians without electricity, heating, and water as winter approaches.
The explosions rocked the capital just three days before Russia and Ukraine are scheduled to participate in U.S.-brokered talks. President Zelenskyy stated that Moscow's preparations for these peace talks involved pummelling a city of millions with ballistic missiles.
