Three United States agencies have accused Chinese artificial intelligence companies of exploiting American AI models. According to a joint statement issued by U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials, Chinese developers appropriated intellectual property from American AI laboratories.
In response to these concerns, the U.S. is urging AI firms to identify Chinese users and secretly switch them to less-capable models.
China has dismissed claims that its developers extract capabilities from frontier American AI systems. While stating it is willing to hold talks with the U.S. on artificial intelligence, China vowed to retaliate if Washington takes action against Chinese companies over accusations of systematic technology theft.
