Apple Maps renames Lake Ontario to Lake America for US users after Trump order

Apple has renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America for users of its Maps app in the United States. The change comes in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump amid an escalating trade spat and the breakdown of trade talks with Canada.

The move marks the second US-based tech giant to comply with the order, following a decision by Alphabet. Google Maps rolled out the name change for US users over the weekend, citing the presidential order.

The body of water sits between the border of New York state and the Canadian province of Ontario. While US users of Apple and Google Maps will see the new name, Apple users outside the country will still see the name Lake Ontario. MapQuest has refused to rename the lake.
