At least one dead and dozens rescued in life-threatening Texas flash floods

natural disasters

Flash flood emergencies have been issued for parts of Kerr and Uvalde counties and the Texas Hill Country. Heavy downpours have dropped more than a foot of rain since Monday, with some areas receiving up to 20 inches. Life-threatening flooding has taken hold around the Guadalupe and Pedernales rivers.

The extreme weather has turned rivers into raging torrents, washing out more than 100 roads and wrecking bridges. Mandatory evacuations are underway across the Texas Hill Country as emergency crews perform dozens of water rescues for people stranded by high water.

At least one person has died during rescue operations. This disaster comes just one year after a catastrophic deluge killed between 130 and 139 people in the same region. A large and deadly flood wave is currently surging down a river that claimed two dozen lives at Camp Mystic during last year's floods.
