Former world champion Zolani Tete shot dead outside his home in South Africa

Former world champion boxer Zolani Tete has been shot and killed at his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Government officials, including sports, arts and culture minister Gayton McKenzie, confirmed the death of the 38-year-old.

Police reported that Tete was ambushed by two armed suspects wearing balaclavas while he was arriving at his residence and waiting for the gate to open. Tete was killed inside his vehicle. A 27-year-old woman who was travelling with him was also shot multiple times and has been taken to the hospital.

Tete had a distinguished boxing career, holding world title belts in the WBF flyweight category from 2007-2008 and the WBO bantamweight title in 2017 and 2019. He was also a former IBF super-flyweight world champion.
