DoorDash has received Federal Aviation Administration approval to operate a commercial drone delivery service in the United States. On July 29, the company unveiled its in-house program, DoorDash Air, marking a strategic push into autonomous delivery.
The company plans to build its own custom aircraft and develop an end-to-end aerial network rather than relying on partners. This effort to delegate more orders to robots is intended to cut delivery times and reduce the company's reliance on human couriers.
Despite these developments, DoorDash has made it clear that most food deliveries will still arrive via human drivers.
