Barcelona has signed England forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth approximately 70 million euros, or more than £69.3 million. The 25-year-old winger officially joined the Spanish league champions on Friday, May 29, signing a five-year contract that runs until June 30, 2031.
Gordon arrived in Spain on Thursday to undergo a medical examination before being unveiled as a Barcelona player. Despite the club's financial troubles, they completed the acquisition of the winger, who stated that he will remain a fan of Newcastle for the rest of his life.
Last season, Gordon netted 17 goals for Newcastle in all competitions, with 10 of those coming in 12 Champions League appearances. One of those goals was scored during a Champions League round of 16 match against Barcelona.
The forward is currently included in England's squad for the World Cup. England's first game of the tournament is scheduled for June 17 against Croatia in Arlington, Texas.
