Alexander Zverev secured his maiden Grand Slam title on Sunday, defeating Italy's 14th-ranked Flavio Cobolli in a dramatic five-set final at the French Open. Zverev won the match 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 to lift his first trophy at Roland Garros.
In his fourth major final, Zverev overcame his nerves to defeat a stubborn Cobolli, who twice leveled the score at 1-1 and 2-2. Zverev's serve remained on point at crucial moments, and he broke Cobolli at 4-5 in the fourth set to force a tiebreak. He then dominated the fifth set with two breaks to secure the victory.
The win makes Zverev the first German man to win a Slam since Boris Becker 30 years ago. Prior to the final, Zverev reached the championship match by defeating first-time semi-finalist Jakub Menšík in four sets, 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
