A former senior CIA officer with top secret-level clearance has been arrested and charged with the theft of government money. Federal officials searched the officer's home on May 18, seizing more than 300 gold bars valued at approximately $40 million.
The officer allegedly claimed that the gold bars were needed for work-related expenses. The discovery was made while FBI agents were investigating whether the individual had lied about his background.
Investigators found that the former official had provided false information regarding his education and military background on his job application.
